Leadership for the Future
Karla Backer, Regional Field Coordinator, British Columbia and Yukon Region, was a panel speaker at the first event of the Leadership for the Future Forum series organized by the National Managers’ Community in partnership with the Canada Public Service School. It was held on October 29, in Vancouver and linked to Edmonton by virtual dialogue. The topic was workplace health and wellness.
Mrs. Backer was invited to showcase the new Mental Health in the Workplace workshop.
Ontario and Nunavut Region welcomes new facilitators to the Joint Learning Program
From October 20 to 24, in Toronto, the Ontario and Nunavut Region hosted an orientation session on facilitation, given by Rachel Besharah and Marcia Vergara, Joint Learning Program Program Officers. Romeo Jackson and Susan Giampetri, Regional Field Coordinators for the Ontario and Nunavut Region, welcomed 18 new facilitators: M. Luisa Christensen, Geraldine Donlin, Elizabeth Dotson, Juanita Edwards, Aaron Gillis, Judi Goodfellow, Alejandra Gutierrez, Laura Higuera, Sara Johnson Vleuten, Richard Kim, Chantal Larochelle, Mark Leroux, Sarah Michels, Monica Navalta, Paul Samson, Murray Star, Heather Sutton and Melodie Tam.
Quebec Region welcomes New Facilitators to the Joint Learning Program
From November 3 to 7, in Montreal, the Quebec Region hosted an orientation session on facilitation, given by Marcia Vergara, Monique Bernier and Colyn Tucker Steele, Passport Canada. Manon Bouchard and Carolle Lajoie, Regional Field Coordinators (RFC) for the Quebec Region, Linda Iezzi and Alex Roussakis, National Capital Region (NCR) RFC, and Wanda Thomas and Angela Leger, Atlantic RFC, welcomed 18 new facilitators: from the Quebec Region,Line Laporte, Danielle Désir, Jennifer Braga, Brigitte Bilodeau, Isabelle Delisle, Isabelle Labrie, Marie-Claude Alain, Dominique St-Jean, Louise Lajoie, Claudyne Hilaireand François Jeanson; from the Atlantic Region, Andrea Vautour, and from the NCR, Annie Laquerre, Sylvie Gaudreau, Louise Lévesque, Christiane Binette, Lenold Guerrier and Geneviève Charlebois. Some individuals participated per a Memorandum of Understanding with Correctional Services Canada and Union of the Solicitor’s General Employees, and with the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada.

Carolle Lajoie (left) and Manon Bouchard (right) took the opportunity to recognixe Monique Bernier’s retirement from the Public Service, mainly with Service Canada. Mrs. Bernier has been a facilitator with the Joint Learning Program for the last 10 years.
New Joint Learning Program Steering Committee Co-Chair representing the Employer
Sally Thornton has been appointed to the position of Assistant Deputy Minister, Governance, Planning and Policy Sector, effective November 24, 2014. In her capacity, she is the new Co-Chair of the Joint Learning Program Steering Committee representing the Employer, replacing Ross MacLeod who retired from the Public service.
