International Women's Day in Atlantic

The Joint Learning Program Atlantic region took part in the International Women's Day (IWD) celebration which was held on March 5, 2015, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Atlantic Facilitors, Shelly Braithwaite and Florence Otuki, offered a 90-minute demonstration from the Creating a Harassment-free Workplace (HFW) workshop to increase participants' understanding of what generally constitutes harassment.  This sample learning activity from the HFWkit clarifies respective roles and responsibilities of the Union and the Employer in creating a harassment-free workplace, and describes some of the individual behaviours that can create conflict in the workplace.

IWD is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. The IWD Organizing Committee made up of volunteers of Federal Government Departments invited Nova Scotia women from Federal Departments, Agencies, Crown Corporations, the Military, the Public Service Alliance of Canada and their retirees to attend the event.
