March 8: International Women's Day 2022 - #breakthebias

March 8, 2022 marks International Women’s Day (IWD).  It is a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of girls and women. It is also a time to raise awareness on the work that remains to be done and a call for action to accelerate women's equality.

The first IWD took place on March 19, 1911. It emerged from the activities of labour movements in North America and Europe and reflected a growing call for women’s equal participation in society.

The theme for IWD 2022 is #BreakTheBias. Whether deliberate or unconscious, biases create barriers for women and other equity-seeking groups. It is not enough to know that bias exists, we must take action to level the playing field. Today, take a moment to reflect on this year’s theme by reading the following:

Imagine a gender equal world.
A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.
A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
A world where difference is valued and celebrated.
Together we can forge women's equality.
Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.
Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.
We can break the bias in our communities.
We can break the bias in our workplaces.
We can break the bias in our schools, colleges and universities.
Together, we can all break the bias - on International Women's Day (IWD) and beyond.
