The JLP at the NJC: a Day at the Museum

The National Joint Council (NJC) held its annual seminar at the Museum of Technology and Science in Ottawa on September 24, and the JLP played a major role in the day. The theme of the event was, “Supporting Employees Through Challenging Times”.

More than 120 participants, employer and bargaining agents alike, gathered to learn about healing from Indigenous Elder Barb Brant, explore conflict resolution and participate in a Mental Health in the Workplace learning activity facilitated by two seasoned JLP facilitators. Kim Sweeney (union) and Isabelle Bégin (employer) guided the attendees through an hour-long experiential learning session based on the JLP’s Mental Health in the Workplace in-person workshop.

Dozens of attendees dropped by the JLP kiosk to learn more about the Program. Many commented that they had come specifically because of the experience Kim and Isabelle had led.

The day was moderated by JLP Co-Directors Roxanne Lépine (employer) and Catherine Gilbert (union), and participants had a chance to also tour the museum during breaks. It was a day of conversation, of exchange, and of “learning and growing together”.
